In our first Business Spotlight of 2019, we want to highlight one of my favorite places to unwind with a BIG GIVEAWAY! Click here for your chance to win a free 60 minute Swedish Massage and a free 60 minute Blueberry Facial from Drift Wellness Studio located in Athens! We sat down with owner, Casey Gunter, to find out a little more about how Drift got its start and what makes it so fabulous!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was in a car accident when I was 17 and broke my neck. It was a long healing process and massage therapy was a big part of that. With money I received from the car insurance company, I opened a coffee shop and then a restaurant. After many exciting years, I knew I wanted to do something more with my life. I wanted to help people and not be stressed out all the time, so I decided to go to massage school. I got a great job at an upscale spa but found myself very stressed and was pressured to upsell and push products on people. It was not what I thought I’d be doing. I decided to continue my education and become an esthetician in Athens, GA where in class we had to do a project creating a mock business. My project was Drift Wellness Studio, I got a C on that project but decided to show that teacher and actually opened it. 🙂
What sets you apart from the competition?
We are client focused and really want to help. Our unique services and family atmosphere keeps our schedules very full. All of the therapists that work here pay rent, keep all their own money and make their own hours ….which means they are happy. A happy therapist is a good therapist.
What activities do you enjoy when you’re not at the Studio?
I spend my days caring for my 2 wonderful daughters, practicing yoga, lifting weights, reading and cooking. When the weather is nice, my husband takes us all sailing on the lake.
What are some of your favorite skincare products right now?
We have our own skincare line, ESTER. I love our anti-aging night oil made from a potent blend of essential oils, crafted to feed the skin while you sleep. One of my favorite uses for this product, is as an eye makeup remover. You can gently massage it into your eye lids and brows, wipe off makeup with a tissue and leave overnight as a lash and brow nourishing treatment.
What is your advice for someone wanting to start their own small business?
If you have a dream, go for it! Give it all you have and come from a place of love. Care more about people than money and you will be happier and truly successful.
